Blockster Labs’ (Product Division of AyanWorks) journey to build the Decentralized Identity and Verifiable Credentials management platform started a few months right after we embarked on the Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) tech stack.

The antecedent (alpha) version work began in August 2019.

CREDEBL — Decentralized Identity Platform

Background

Our stint to build the Decentralized Identity and Verifiable Credentials management platform started a few months right after we embarked on the Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) tech stack.

The antecedent (alpha) version work began in August 2019. It leveraged a primitive home grown cloud agent, mediator agent, and edge wallet. During the pandemic times, we were super busy in integrating the platform with Aries Python Cloud Agent, thus making the solution more compliant and standards driven. Post pandemic days, our team was focused on serving a few customers.

V2.0 (Q2/2023) — What’s new?

This release was unique. Beginning in the year 2023, we completely revamped the architecture of CREDEBL Platform & ADEYA SSI Mobile App / SDK to make it more lightweight, scalable and easy for developers to start developing digital identity solutions on top of it.

Keeping priority for population-scale demands, we shifted from Aries Python Agent (ACA-Py) to Aries Framework JavaScript (AFJ), besides having a single codebase for both cloud (org) agents & mobile edge agents. Now you can set up your organization and AFJ-based multi-tenant agent quickly and thus, be able to start using the platform.

Some of the key features we added in V2.0 are:

  1. Ability to deploy CREDEBL on your own cloud environment, or use SaaS
  2. Aries Framework JS support resulting in — i) W3C JSON-LD credentials, Multi-tenant org agents, ii) Support for did:web, did:key, did:peer, did:cheqd, iii) Mobile & Cloud agents using the same AFJ code base
  3. Bulk issuance of credentials
  4. Passkey authentication using FIDO WebAuthn
  5. Supabase as a database for CREDEBL Platform — using Auth module
  6. Option to deploy the new CREDEBL Studio (UI) on Deno Deploy or on your cloud
  7. CREDEBL Docs built using Astro

DPG Status

In October this year, CREDEBL was announced as Open Source under Apache 2.0 license and registered under the DPGA (Digital Public Goods Alliance) — an United Nations endorsed entity which assesses the DPGs globally and maintains the registry.

With the DPG status, CREDEBL is also being used by several Governments for implementing population-scale decentralized digital identity solutions for citizens benefits.

Release — v0.2 — beta.03 Features

We are keen to listen to the demands and expectations from the customers, so are our future roadmap for CREDEBL.

  • Out-of-band by issuance for multiple credential records
  • Delete organization invitations
  • Token based authentication for Aries Agent (AFJ)
  • Pagination and sorting for tables on connections, issuance, and verification screen
  • Set organization to private by default

What to expect in next major release

  • Issue & verify JSON-LD credentials
  • Support for Polygon & Hedera as VDR (Verifiable Data Registry) for writing DIDs, Schemas & Credential Definitions
  • Support for Keycloak as an IDP & for OpenID4VC
  • Support for Post-quantum crypto such as Crystal Kyber, Crystal Dilithium

As Simon Sinek says ‘Business is an infinite game and your competition is your former self’, one should continue to improve..

With that in mind, we look forward to an even brighter and successful 2024.
